In working with the Maasai of Tanzania, Judge Crane learned to be open to a new way of thinking and through the insight of this ancient African proverb began a process to identify and be mindful of her own implicit biases which she uses in her professional life today. 

Learning objectives:

• Inherent and implicit biases, like assumptions, are needed to help us to attend to the task at hand. 
• The problem arises when they take us in the wrong direction, are unfair or harmful. 
• The wisdom of the African proverb, "The eyes never forget what the heart has seen" guides us in preventing this.
