During this presentation, we will outline the basics of handling a case before the AHC from filing to final decision. We start by describing what the AHC does and identifying the types of cases we hear. We will also discuss the applicable procedural and evidentiary rules applied by the AHC. Finally, we will identify some common mistakes by explaining how practicing before the AHC differs from your typical practice in state court.

After this presentation, you should be able to:

• Describe what the AHC generally does and how it works.
• Locate the substantive and procedural law governing your case, including evidentiary rules.
• Understand what is expected at a hearing and in post-hearing briefing.
• Avoid common mistakes by understanding when and how practicing before the AHC differs from typical state court practice.
