Tory Bernsen is a partner at Muhlenkamp & Bernsen and focuses her practice on criminal defense and appellate advocacy. Ms. Bernsen is a Criminal Justice Act Panel Attorney for the United States District Court in the Eastern District of Missouri and the defense attorney for the DWI Court Program in St. Louis County. She sits on the Board of Directors for the Missouri Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (MACDL).
Ms. Bernsen received the Atticus Finch Award from MACDL in 2019 and is a staunch advocate for appellate review on the merits and effective representation of criminal defendants. Ms. Bernsen is a member of the National College for DUI Defense and, while serving as Special Assistant Attorney General and Legal Counsel to the Director of Revenue, she completed the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) course in the administration of standardized field sobriety testing.
Scott Bokal is with J.B. Hammer Digital Forensics. His focus is on computer, mobile device, cloud, social media, OSINT framework, vehicle & cloud-based data. His certifications include Computer Examiner & International Society of Forensic Computer Examiners, Magnet Forensics Certified Examiner, Research Electronics, Technical Surveillance Countermeasures and Berla iVe Vehicle Forensics Certified. Scott is an Adjunct Professor at Maryville University teaching Cybersecurity and at the University of Missouri – St. Louis.
A native of Chillicothe, Missouri, Judge Chapman earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Westminster College in 1988. Judge Chapman received his J.D. at the University of Virginia School of Law in 1991; and received his LLM in Taxation, from U.M.K.C. School of Law in 1995.
After graduating from law school, Judge Chapman practiced law in Chillicothe for 19 years before being elected in 2010 as circuit judge for the 43rd Judicial Circuit, Division 1. He was reelected in 2012, and then served as the 43rd Circuit Presiding Judge through 2018. In 2018, he was appointed by Governor Michael Parson to the Missouri Court of Appeals, Western District, and was retained in that position in 2020.
Chapman and his wife, Lindy, continue to reside in Chillicothe, Missouri. Their eldest daughter, Claire Wright, M.D., is a Captain in the Air Force. Their son, Wagner Chapman, is a product developer at Amazon and resides in Seattle, Washington. Their youngest, Callaway Chapman, recently graduated from Miami University of Oxford, Ohio; and is currently attending Washington University School of Law.
John M. Eccher is a criminal defense and civil plaintiff trial attorney, with the majorities of his criminal practice in the area of DWI defense and his civil practice in the areas of employment and civil rights litigation.
Ben Faber is a criminal defense lawyer based in his hometown of Columbia, Missouri.
Judge Zel Fischer was born in Hamburg, Iowa and grew up in the small town of Watson, Missouri. He was educated in Rock Port public schools, and attended William Jewell College, in Liberty, MO. He went on to graduate from the University of Missouri–Kansas City School of Law with distinction in 1988.
Judge Fischer was admitted to The Missouri Bar in 1988 and served one year as law clerk for the Honorable Andrew Jackson Higgins of the Supreme Court of Missouri. From there, he practiced law in Kansas City, engaged in a solo law practice in northwest Missouri, and in November 2006, he was elected associate circuit judge for Atchison County. Judge Fischer served in that capacity until his appointment to the Supreme Court of Missouri in October 2008. He served as chief justice from July 2017–June 2019, receiving the Theodore McMillian Judicial Excellence Award from the Missouri Bar in 2019.
Judge Fischer is the President of The National Courts and Science Institute (NCSI), which is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to training judges in science, and also serves as a member on the National Advisory Board for the University of North Carolina Bryson Center for Judicial Science Education.
Judge Fischer is an active member of his church and community.
Judge Fischer has been married to Julie Fischer, his wife of 36 years. They have four children, and four grandchildren.
Matt Fry is one of Missouri’s top DWI attorneys. He has successfully defended every type of DWI case, including assault, manslaughter, and felony murder. There is no DWI fact pattern Matt has not seen. Outside of DWI offense, Matt is passionate about teaching Trial Advocacy II at SLU Law and running his non-profit, St. Louis Impact.
Steven W. Hernandez practices DWI Defense, exclusively in New Jersey. He is Board Certified in DUI Defense by the NCDD and Certified by the NJ Supreme Court as a Municipal Court Trial Attorney. He is representing the NCDD as Amicus in the DRE challenge before the NJ Supreme Court.
T.R. Hoefle is an attorney with Hoefle Law in Belton, Missouri. Most of his practice is Business Formation, Civil Litigation, traffic and DWI. Practicing since 2004 his firm concentrates on a personal and compassionate approach to each client's unique needs. He has also taught paralegals for Grantham for 9 years.
Travis Jones has been an instructor in the law enforcement field for the last 22 years. He has taught in DWI Enforcement and traffic safety related topics. He received a bachelor’s degree and Master of Science degree from Lindenwood University. He is a court recognized expert in the field of drug impairment, alcohol impairment, breath testing for alcohol, radar, and accident reconstruction. Travis is currently the owner of TBJ LLC which conducts training, case reviews, and expert testimony.
Travis Noble concentrates in the areas of DWI, federal and state drug charges and other felonies. He served as a police officer from 1985 until 1990 and a narcotics agent from 1990 until 1995. He has instructed in the areas of Narcotics Investigations, Forensics, Criminal Investigations, Police K-9, Standardized Field Sobriety Testing and DWI Investigations. As a result of ten years in law enforcement, he brings a unique outlook and background in the defense of persons charged with crimes. In addition to trying cases throughout the State of Missouri, he has represented defendants in both federal and state courts throughout the United States.
Janis C. Puracal is the Executive Director of the Forensic Justice Project. Ms. Puracal became devoted to innocence work after her brother was wrongfully convicted. Ms. Puracal is also an adjunct professor at Lewis & Clark Law School where she teaches a course on wrongful convictions.
Attorney Daniel Ross is from St. Louis, Missouri and has been living in the Kansas City, Missouri area for over 30 years. He is licensed to practice Law in the State of Missouri, is admitted into the United States District Court for the Western District of Missouri and the United States District Court, District of Kansas. He obtained his undergraduate degree at The University of Missouri in Columbia and completed his Law Degree at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Upon graduating Law School he began his law career at the Jackson County, Missouri Prosecuting Attorney’s Office as an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney and remained with that office for six years. After his employment with the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office, he took a position at a well known civil trial defense firm in Kansas City, Missouri. After four years of practicing civil trial defense, Dan Ross entered private practice focusing on Criminal Defense.
Today, Dan Ross continues to dedicate his law practice to defending people who are charged with crimes, primarily, serious felony offenses. Daniel Ross is highly experienced in defending individuals who are the subjects of complex prosecutions on both the State and Federal levels. He is well known in the Kansas City legal community and across the mid-west region for being a formidable advocate for his clients, winning extremely difficult cases and relentlessly pursuing favorable results for his clients. He is a member of the Missouri Bar Association and the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association.
Thomas L. Stewart joined SLU LAW in 2009 as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Law and Director of the Trial Advocacy program. Previously, Stewart spent the past 12 years as an adjunct professor at SLU LAW teaching Trial Advocacy and Evidence. Over the past 23 years, Stewart was actively engaged in private practice as a trial lawyer, specializing in products liability, medical negligence, class action litigation and toxic torts.
In addition to his active trial practice, Professor Stewart is a certified Neutral having served as a Mediator in over 100 cases in state and federal court.
He has guest lectured for Washington University MBA Programs, Missouri Association of Trial Attorneys, the Lawyers' Association of St. Louis, the Missouri Bar Trial Institute, the Kessler-Edison Program for Trial Techniques at Emory University School of Law and Saint Louis University School of Medicine.
Hon. Gary Witt was appointed to the Missouri Court of Appeals, Western District, in 2010. He was elected as chief judge for a two year term that began July 1, 2022. He received the Appellate Judicial Excellence Award in 2020. He was previously an associate circuit judge in Platte County from 1998 - 2010.
Before his judicial service, Judge Witt served as a state representative from 1991-1996. He was a shareholder with Witt, Hicklin & Witt, PC in Platte City.
Judge Witt earned his undergraduate degree from William Jewell College and his Juris Doctor from University of Missouri-Columbia.
