Presented by MoBarCLE and the Missouri Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Annual Bernard Edelman DWI Law & Science Seminar provides lawyers with the opportunity to learn from national experts and even better understand the science behind the practice of DWI law.
 

This seminar covers everything from the essentials new lawyers need to win their first DWI case to the advanced techniques and case law updates required to keep veteran practitioners at the top of their game. Additionally, Ms. Marshall is the Diversity and Inclusion Officer for the Missouri State Public Defender System where she leads the diversity, equity and inclusion strategy in the areas of recruitment, hiring, training and employee relations. As a result of ten years in law enforcement, he brings a unique outlook and background in the defense of persons charged with crimes. Dr. Rose began his career in science and medicine in 1974 working as a research technician in the Department of Anatomy at the University of Miami School of Medicine, preparing anatomic remains for the anatomy class and cell biology teaching materials for the medical students.
 
He worked as a research technician from 1976-1978 in the Department of Pharmacology at the same medical school running an over the counter drug efficacy trial and performing bench research on drug transport across cell membranes by UV-VIS Spectrophotometry. From 1978 to 1981 he attended Florida Atlantic University and earned his BA degree in Biology followed by earning his Doctor of Medicine ( M.D. ) degree from the University of Miami in 1985.
 
Subsequent to medical school he trained in Clinical Pathology ( Laboratory Medicine ) for two years at the University of Alabama, Birmingham, and was in charge of the emergency toxicology testing for ethanol by serum enzyme assay testing, and other intoxicating substances when on call duty. He then trained at the Dade County Medical Examiner Department formal Forensic Toxicology training program and rotated through all sections of the medical examiner department and the toxicology laboratory, analyzed many samples by GC-FID, and GC-MS and performed research on ethanol and cocaine during that training.
 
In 1992 he started the first DUI laboratory at the University of Miami and was responsible for blood ethanol testing, blood drug testing and urine drug testing for the law enforcement agencies of Dade County, Florida. From 1995 through 1998 he trained in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Miami, diagnosing and treating psychiatric patients, often under the influence of ethanol and drugs. He had an opportunity to correlate the behavioral effects of ethanol and drugs with a combination of physical examination of the patient and laboratory testing of the patient.
 
He has been a courtesy professor in the Department of Chemistry at FIU since 1997 and has taught Forensic Toxicology and performed research in a variety of areas including detector dogs, breath ethanol testing and blood ethanol testing. Dr. Rose has been in the field of laboratory science and pharmacology since 1974, and from then until the present he has experienced formal education, training and research in clinical and forensic pharmacology and toxicology.
