This program offers a quick review of basic skills and knowledge necessary to be an effective researcher. The ability to research depends on your conceptual model of working problems, understanding the terrain of legal resources, matching problems to resources, and having a legal research process. Besides outlining these skills and knowledge base, we will discuss the disruption of Generative AI Large Language Models, and ethical duties of competency.

Paul Callister has been the director of the Leon E. Bloch Law Library at UMKC for 20 years. He is also a professor of law. Professor Callister teaches Copyright and advanced legal research courses. He is working on the second edition of his book, Field Guide to Legal Research.
