Brice Barnard

Votava Nantz & Johnson

Brice Barnard is an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney at the Platte County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. Brice interned for Platte County in 2018 and returned to accept a full-time position as an Assistant Prosecutor upon graduation from the University of Missouri-Kansas City Law School in December 2019. While in law school, he spent time as a research clerk for the Honorable Judge Ann Hansbrough and clerked for firms specializing in employment law, medical malpractice and insurance defense. His comment, The Tweet Stop Here: How Politicians Must Address Emerging Freedom of Speech Issues in Social Media, was published in the summer 2020 edition of the UMKC Law Review.

As an Assistant Prosecutor, he now supervises Platte County’s Wellness Court treatment program and manages a full caseload of felonies and misdemeanors. Recently, he served as the main author and supervising attorney for the creation of Platte County’s new diversion program, Platte CARES (Community Alternative with Restorative and Educational Services), which provides second chance opportunities for low-risk offenders through specialized education and treatment plans. He currently serves on the Platte CARES executive committee. Prior to working in the legal field, Brice spent time acting and performing on stage, which gave him the skills and motivation to pursue his dream of becoming a trial lawyer. He now uses the courtroom as his stage to zealously advocate for justice on behalf of the community and its victims.

Outside of the office, Brice has spent the past several years traveling the globe in an effort to expand his knowledge of culture and the human condition. He also enjoys writing and rooting for our Kansas City sports teams. Brice currently serves as the District 4 Representative on the Missouri Bar YLS Council and serves as a co-chair for the CLE Committee. He is also a member of the Missouri Association of Treatment Court Professionals, the Missouri Association of Prosecuting Attorneys, the National District Attorneys Association, and KCMBA.
