Janet Thompson, who received her Juris Doctor and LLM from the University of Missouri-Columbia, currently serves as Boone County's District II Commissioner, a position to which she was first elected in 2012, and re-elected in 2016 and 2020. Prior to this service, she was a Missouri Assistant Public Defender for almost 25 years.
Janet has spearheaded Boone County's participation in the National Association of Counties' (NACo) Stepping Up Initiative, and serves as vice chair of NACo's Justice & Public Safety Committee; as NACo liaison to the National Judicial Task Force to Examine State Courts' Response to Mental Illness; as a member of the NACo and National Sheriff's Association Joint Task Force on the Federal Medicaid Exclusion Policy, and as chair of the Missouri Association of Counties' Policing, Justice & Mental Health Steering Committee.
