Richard A. (“Rick”) Courtney directs the Courtney Elder Law Associates planning group of Frascogna Courtney, PLLC  in the areas of elder law, public benefits law (Medicaid, Medicare, SSI), asset protection and estate planning, trusts and trust administration, retirement benefits planning, special needs planning for persons with disabilities, guardianships and conservatorships, nursing home and disability rights, and probate administration.  Rick is a Certified Elder Law Attorney; a former Assistant Dean and Adjunct Professor of Law; a Fellow and member of the Council of Advanced Practitioners of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys; the Trust and Estate Law Sections of the American and Mississippi Bar Associations; and the Special Needs Alliance, a national organization of special needs planning attorneys.  He is a Fellow in the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel and is included in Best Lawyers in America in elder law and trust and estate planning.  Rick received the 2009 New York-based Theresa Award for community service and advocacy on behalf of children and adults with special needs, and in 2015 he testified before Congress in support of legislation to assist adults with disabilities establish special needs trusts.
