Richard L. Schnake is a partner in the Springfield law firm of Neale & Newman, L.L.P. He has handled more than 250 appeals and writ proceedings in the state and federal appellate courts in some 60 different substantive areas and has argued 16 cases before the Missouri Supreme Court. In 1990 he received the David J. Dixon Appellate Advocacy Award, and in 2003 he was nominated for appointment to the Missouri Court of Appeals, Southern District. Mr. Schnake has written and lectured extensively on appellate and civil practice topics and is a regular speaker at seminars sponsored by The Missouri Bar and the Springfield Metropolitan Bar Association. He is an original member of the Supreme Court Appellate Practice Committee; a former member of the Supreme Court Civil Rules Committee; and a member of The Missouri Bar Civil Practice & Procedure Committee and the ABA Council of Appellate Lawyers. He is the author of Civil Rules Practice, Rules 85-88, 17A Missouri Practice (2d ed. 2012 & Supp. 2019). He has also contributed to the MoBar CLE series as the author of Chapter 4, “Settlement Conferences,” Missouri Appellate Practice (5th ed. 2002 & Supp. 2013). He received his bachelor’s degree from Southwest Missouri State University in 1979 and his law degree from Washington University in St. Louis in 1982. He served as the law clerk to Missouri Supreme Court Judge Warren D. Welliver before entering private practice in 1983.
