Tom Smith is an attorney with the law firm of EdCounsel, LLC, whose practice is devoted solely to providing legal representation to public school districts. He received his B.S. degree from Truman State University and his J.D. from Mizzou. Prior to joining the EdCounsel team, Tom worked in a law firm focusing mainly on environmental and administrative law, but developed a deep interest in school law while assisting a local school district on a real estate purchase. With EdCounsel, he is able to focus all of his efforts on advising school leaders on the wide array of legal issues that arise in the school environment. He conducts training and presents on legal issues in the education community numerous times every year, and is a co-author of the “Legal Guide for Missouri School Leaders”, which is used by school administrators throughout the state.
