T. J. Mullin received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and History, Magna Cum Laude, from St. Louis University. He was elected to Phi Beta Kappa in his Junior year. He received his Juris Doctor degree from The University of Chicago Law School. He served in the U.S. Army for seven years, first as an infantry officer, and later as a Captain in the Judge Advocate General Corp, and was awarded a Meritorious Service Medal.
He opened his law office in Clayton, MO, in 1976 dealing with civil matters, such as divorces, wills, and bankruptcy, specializing in Bankruptcy only starting in 1988. He was one of the first attorneys in Missouri to advertise his services, first in print, then on radio and television. He holds the record for most Chapter 13 and Chapter 7 Bankruptcies filed in the Eastern District of Missouri. He was the first consumer debtor attorney to be honored with the Missouri Bar’s Michael Rosier Excellence in Bankruptcy Practices Award in 1997. He is the author of nineteen books and numerous articles published in the United States, Canada and England. He is married to his high school sweetheart, Eleanor, who managed his law offices. They have one daughter, Catherine, and two grandchildren.
