He served for three years as Chair of the Administrative Law Committee of The Missouri Bar and presents the employment section of the MoBar Annual Law Update for Mid-Missouri.

Kent speaks frequently at MoBar and other programs on employment law, constitutional law and other topics. Sample publications include: various chapters in the Administrative Law CLE Deskbook; Special Problems, Missouri Damages (Mo. Bar Supp. 1994); Best Digest of Insurance Laws (updates); Confidentiality in Mediation, 1991 J. Disp. Res., 307 (1991); and a legal handbook for public libraries titled Missouri Library Law: Personnel Law which was published by the Missouri State Library, Dec. 2006.

A lifelong Missourian, he received a bachelor of science degree in speech communication in 1982 from Missouri State University in Springfield, taught high school speech, debate and English for six years, and in, 1991, received a juris doctorate from the University of Missouri-Columbia. After graduating law school, he practiced for ten years with Carson & Coil, P.C., a firm located in Jefferson City, where he was an officer and shareholder. In 2001, he left Carson & Coil to begin his own firm in Jefferson City.
