Judge Matthew Hamner was raised at the Lake of the Ozarks and graduated from Camdenton High School in 1994. He earned a bachelor’s degree in speech communication from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1998, and then earned his law degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Law in 2001.
After law school, Judge Hamner served as a law clerk for the Honorable William Ray Price, Jr., of the Supreme Court of Missouri. He then practiced at Rouse Hendricks German May in Kansas City, before moving back to the Lake and becoming a shareholder at Phillips, McElyea, Carpenter & Welch in Camdenton. He was elected Associate Circuit Judge in Camden County in 2014, and was appointed as a Circuit Judge in the 26th Judicial Circuit in 2017, serving a term as Presiding Judge. In March 2024, Governor Parson appointed Judge Hamner to the Missouri Court of Appeals, Southern District.
Judge Hamner is a former President of the 26th Circuit Bar Association, and has been involved in numerous community organizations including the Camdenton Athletic Boosters, the Camdenton Education Foundation, the Rotary Club and the Chamber of Commerce. Judge Hamner is a member of Harper Chapel United Methodist Church where he performs in the Praise Band.
Judge Hamner and his wife Sherrie have two daughters, neither of whom are impressed by anything in this bio.
