As Missouri debuts the NextGen Bar Exam in 2026, and the use of mediation expands within and outside of litigation, understanding the scope of mediation opportunities and options is essential. This course is designed for litigators, mediators, and non-litigators in serving clients and other participants, learning and enhancing essential skills, and increasing judicial efficiency and access to justice.

Laurel Stevenson is the Director of the Mediation and Assessment Program (MAP) for the United States District Court, Western District of Missouri. She oversees approximately 1,000 civil cases annually and serves as a mediator, facilitator, and trainer. She is the Editor of The Resolver, a publication of the FBA’s ADR Section and the Section’s Treasurer. She served more than a decade as a Facilitator for the Missouri Bar Complaint Resolution Program and the Fee Dispute Resolution Program.
Jason Sprang is a former Federal Mediator who has 25 years' experience resolving cases before the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. Now in private mediation practice, Jason serves as a neutral for civil cases, including a focus on labor and employment claims and related disputes. Jason has mediated over 2,000 cases, both private and public-sector claims, and has had the privilege of providing training in conflict resolution and employment discrimination law for mediators, attorneys, law students, human resource professionals, and government agency staff. Jason lives in St. Louis and, in addition to virtual conferences, he travels throughout the Midwest to convene mediation and offer training.
